Parish Priest Message

Rev. Fr. Staney D’Almeida

St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Mysore which is popularly known as St. Philomena’s Church is a fountain of grace, peace, faith and hope. St. Joseph the foster father of Jesus and St. Philomena our co-patron continue to obtain grace upon grace from our Lord Jesus for all who come to this parish Church. And with confidence I can say that St. Philomena continues to be a light and guide for all the devotees, tourists and for our parishioners too.

Throughout the day people flock to the Church, tourists and others to pray to St. Philomena. They entrust to her all their sufferings, worries and troubles and when they leave they take with them solace and consolation. The Church campus provides for the faithful enough and more of atmosphere of complete silence and prayer: the adoration chapel where one can be silent before the Eucharistic Lord, the Shrine inside the Grotto where one can light a candle and offer one’s prayers, the grotto of mother Mary where one can offer silent prayers to Mother Mary, the main Church where one can be lost in prayer and the Crept under the Church where people can offer their silent prayers in the presence of the relic of St. Philomena. In addition to all this there is the parish clergy who are always available for confessions for the benefit of the faithful, so that the people can confess their sins and receive the blessing of the Almighty.

I believe that as sharers in the role of Christ, the priest, the prophet and the king, the laity have an active part to play in the activities of the church. Their activity is so necessary within the Church communities that without it the apostolate of the pastors is ineffective.

Inspired and moved by St. Joseph and St. Philomena in our following of Jesus, we the parish team along with the parish council members, finance committee and all the pious associations are committed to serve the Lord and his people.
