The Catholic Association of Mysore was established in the year 1944 under the able guidance of the then Bishop of Mysore Rt. Rev. Dr. Rene Feuga. It is affiliated to All India Catholic Union. The Main Aims of the Association are:

1. To propagate the Indian Christian principles and philosophy to the Indians through all possible media.

2. To call the attention of the leaders and the concerned authorities to solve Christians problems.

3. To establish Catholic Association within the Diocese and adopt constructive activities to strengthen the unity and integrity of Catholics.

4. The claim all the rights and facilities in the constitution under ‘Minority Rights through all peaceful means.

5. To make our Educational and social Organizations the centers of socio-religious activities in order to achieve the expected progress in the field of social economic and political levels.

6. To promote cordial and value based spiritual relationship between the Church and the society through negotiations as per the direction of the II Vatican Council.

The Catholic Association of Mysore thus came into being and started functioning. A few Luminaries illuminated our Community in the fifties and sixties. Mr. J. M. Coutinho who migrated from Burma (Myanmar) in 1942 was the Head Master of St. Philomena’s High School from 1944 to 1972, 38 long years when he retired. He was the President of C.A.M. for many years and also regional president Karnataka region of AICU for nearly 2 decades. The Few stalwarts of our community directly or indirectly helped in the matters and well-being of the Christian Community between the years 1944 to 1970.

The Catholic Association down the years has done exemplary service to the Church and society like upholding the rights of the minorities, protecting the educational institutions, arranging for old age pension to Christians above 65 years and conducting medical camp, conducting diocesan level carol singing competitions etc. speaks volumes of the work done by the association.
