Stone Laid For New Entrance Gate At St Joseph’s Cathedral

In the Jubilee year – “Pilgrims of Hope”, we are glad to announce the blessing and foundation stone for a new entrance gate at St. Joseph’s Cathedral (St. Philomena’s Church) was ceremonially laid by Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop Emeritus and Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Mysore. Renowned for being the tallest church in India and the second tallest in Asia, St. Joseph’s Cathedral is a significant landmark. Despite its global fame, the cathedral has lacked a proper and aesthetically pleasing entrance.

The existing small gate, located directly opposite the church, was proven inadequate for the influx of tourists and pilgrims. Recognizing the need for a more welcoming entryway, plans for the new gate include enhanced security features and decorative elements that will complement the cathedral’s grandeur, said the management of the cathedral, in a press statement. The construction of the entrance gate is anticipated to be completed by December 2024 before the commencement of the Christmas.
